    Breast lumps and bumps

We understand how worrying it can be to find a lump. This scan is a quick, safe way to get answers. It helps show what the lump is and whether it needs follow-up. Most lumps are harmless. But checking them early helps avoid delays. Our experienced team performs your scan and explains the results the same day.

    Who it's for

    When a scan can help

If you notice a lump in your breast, it’s best to get it checked. Ultrasound can help show what the lump is, whether it’s a fluid-filled cyst a solid lump, or something else. It gives quick answers and can guide what to do next.

    What it shows

    Our ultrasound scans check for

    • Breast lumps and cysts
    • Solid or fluid-filled masses
    • Changes in breast tissue
    • Signs of infection or swelling
    • Lymph node changes

    What to expect

    Your appointment

    1. Before

There’s nothing you need to do beforehand. Try not to use any creams or powders on the chest that day. Wear clothes that make it easy to undress from the top half.

    2. During

You’ll lie back, and the doctor will apply a clear gel on the breast. A small probe is moved over the area to take images. It’s painless and usually takes around 10 to 15 minutes.

    3. After

You can return to your day straight afterwards. Your consultant explains what they have seen before you leave.

    Who reads your scan

    Your report

Your consultant talks you through what the scan shows while you are still in the room.

A written report follows, usually within 24 hours. If anything needs a closer look, we can arrange MRI, CT, blood tests or a specialist referral.

    Unsure?

Book an initial consultation with one of our consultants for £50. If you go on to have imaging or a procedure, the fee is put towards its cost.

    Frequently asked questions

Why should I have a breast lumps and bumps scan?

If you notice a lump in your breast, it’s best to get it checked. Ultrasound can help show what the lump is, whether it’s a fluid-filled cyst a solid lump, or something else. It gives quick answers and can guide what to do next.

What symptoms are linked to breast lumps and bumps?

    You might notice:

    • A lump or thickened area
    • Breast pain or swelling
    • Changes to skin or shape
    • Discharge from the nipple
    • Swelling under your arm
When should I see a doctor?

Get checked if you feel a new lump, if an old lump changes, or if you have ongoing breast pain, skin changes, or any new symptoms. Don’t delay-even if the lump seems small or painless.

    Is it safe?

Ultrasound uses sound waves, not radiation, and has no known side effects. A small amount of gel is applied to the skin and a handheld probe is moved gently over the area. You can return to your day straight afterwards.
