    Breast and armpit

Our breast and armpit ultrasound helps detect changes in your breast tissue and nearby lymph nodes. It’s safe, painless, and done by specialist doctors. We give same-day results and explain what we find. This scan is often used to check new lumps or pain, but it’s also useful for routine monitoring or peace of mind.

    Who it's for

    When a scan can help

This scan can help spot breast or armpit problems early. It’s useful if you’ve noticed a lump, pain, or other changes. It’s also a good way to keep track of known issues or get reassurance if you’re worried.

    What it shows

Our radiologists will use high-end ultrasound machines to check for

    • Breast lumps or cysts
    • Solid or fluid-filled masses
    • Lymph node changes in the armpit
    • Signs of infection or inflammation
    • Changes from past scans

    What to expect

    Your appointment

    1. Before

No special preparation is needed. Wear a top that’s easy to remove. Avoid applying creams or powders on the chest before your appointment.

    2. During

You’ll lie back, and a clear gel will be applied to your breast and underarm. The doctor will move a small probe over the area. It’s painless and takes about 10 to 15 minutes.

    3. After

You can return to your day straight afterwards. Your consultant explains what they have seen before you leave.

    Who reads your scan

    Your report

Your consultant talks you through what the scan shows while you are still in the room.

A written report follows, usually within 24 hours. If anything needs a closer look, we can arrange MRI, CT, blood tests or a specialist referral.

    Unsure?

Book an initial consultation with one of our consultants for £50. If you go on to have imaging or a procedure, the fee is put towards its cost.

    Frequently asked questions

Why should I have this scan?

This scan can help spot breast or armpit problems early. It’s useful if you’ve noticed a lump, pain, or other changes. It’s also a good way to keep track of known issues or get reassurance if you’re worried.

What symptoms are linked to breast and armpit problems?

    Common symptoms include:

    • A new breast or armpit lump / swelling
    • Pain in the breast or underarm
    • Nipple discharge
    • Skin dimpling or changes
    • Swollen lymph nodes
When should I see a doctor?

See a doctor if you notice a lump, pain, skin changes, or any other new or lasting breast symptoms. Even if they seem minor, it’s best to check.

    Is it safe?

Ultrasound uses sound waves, not radiation, and has no known side effects. A small amount of gel is applied to the skin and a handheld probe is moved gently over the area. You can return to your day straight afterwards.
