A diagnostic scan of the area
    Carried out by
    A consultant radiologist
    Guided by
    Real-time ultrasound

    How it works

    Placed precisely, under ultrasound guidance

Every injection is performed with real-time ultrasound, so it reaches the precise area causing pain. All procedures include a targeted diagnostic scan of the area of concern.

Injections are usually considered when rest, physiotherapy or simple treatments have not provided enough relief. If, during your consultation, you or your consultant decide to change the treatment plan or not proceed, we adjust the booking and update the price accordingly.

    Types of injection

Which injection is right for you

    1. Steroid injections

      About steroid injections

    2. Hyaluronic acid injections

Sometimes called lubricant or viscosupplement injections. Used to treat arthritis and wear and tear changes in a range of joints.

      About hyaluronic acid injections

    3. Other guided procedures

Shoulder hydrodistension, calcium barbotage, Achilles hydrodissection and aspiration, including ganglion cysts.

    What they are used for

Conditions these injections are designed to help

    • Joint arthritis. Steroid injections can reduce pain and swelling in joints affected by arthritis. Hyaluronic acid can help reduce pain and stiffness in the knee, hip, ankle and shoulder.
    • Tendon irritation. Injections around tendons can calm inflammation and ease pain from conditions such as tendonitis.
    • Bursitis. Swollen bursae, the fluid-filled sacs around joints, can respond well to steroid injections.
    • Nerve irritation. In some cases, injections placed near nerves can help reduce inflammation and pain.

    Frequently asked questions

How do I know if an injection is right for me?

You may be offered a steroid injection if you have pain from arthritis, tendon problems or soft tissue inflammation that has not improved with simple measures. Hyaluronic acid injections can help if you have arthritis or joint pain that has not improved with simple treatments such as painkillers, exercise or physiotherapy.

    Is a scan included?

Yes. All procedures include a targeted diagnostic scan of the area of concern.

    Are there any risks?

Side effects are uncommon. Some people notice mild pain, swelling, flushing or bruising at the injection site for a short time. Infection is rare. Repeated steroid injections into the same area are usually limited to avoid weakening the tissues.

When should I see a doctor?

You should seek advice if your pain is persistent, is affecting daily life or sleep, or is not improving with medication, exercise or physiotherapy.

What if I'm not sure what I need?

Book a consultation with a musculoskeletal consultant for £50. If you go on to have imaging or a procedure, the fee is put towards its cost.
