Elbow

Elbow pain, stiffness or swelling can make everyday movement frustrating.

An elbow ultrasound gives a clear picture of the soft tissues and structures around the joint. It’s quick, safe, and helps pinpoint what’s causing your symptoms.

One side - £200 | Both side - £350 (£50 deposit)

We look at tendons, ligaments, muscles, bursae, and the joint lining in real time. This helps us detect things like inflammation, tendon damage, fluid collection or joint problems - without radiation or invasive tests.

During this scan, the doctor will check for:

  • Tendon tears or inflammation
  • Tennis or golfer’s elbow
  • Joint fluid and inflammation (effusion and synovitis)
  • Bicipital or olecranon bursitis
  • Ligament injury
  • Signs of arthritis (osteoarthritis or inflammatory arthritis)
  • Nerve irritation or compression
  • Muscle injury

Related Procedures

Steroid injection for arthritis or bursitis - £450

Arthritis or olecranon bursitis in the elbow can cause pain, swelling, and limited movement. A steroid injection delivers anti-inflammatory medication to the joint or bursa, reducing symptoms and improving function.

Tennis Elbow Injection - £450

Targets the tendons on the outer side of the elbow that become irritated through repetitive movements. Steroid injections may help to reduce pain, ease stiffness, and promote recovery for improved strength and function.

Golfer’s Elbow Injection - £450

Used to treat pain and inflammation on the inner side of the elbow caused by overuse or strain. Steroid injections help reduce discomfort and support healing so you can return to sport or daily activities with confidence.

FAQs

When should I get an ultrasound scan for my elbow?

If your elbow hurts, feels swollen, or isn’t moving as it should, an ultrasound can help. It gives a clear view of soft tissue problems and helps guide treatment. It’s also helpful for long-standing elbow pain or after injury.

Sometimes further imaging such as MRI is necessary to assess the internal structures of the elbow. Our specialists can decide whether further imaging is necessary and can arrange this for you at the time of the appointment.

What symptoms are linked to elbow problems?

●      Pain when lifting or gripping

●      Swelling or warmth around the joint

●      Stiffness or reduced movement

●      Pain that worsens with activity

●      A lump or bump near the elbow

●      Weakness in the arm

When should I see a doctor?

Get medical advice if the pain doesn’t improve, affects your daily tasks, or gets worse. Also speak to a doctor if you notice a lump, your range of motion is reduced, or the joint feels unstable.

What happens during the scan?

You’ll sit or lie down with your arm supported. A clear gel is applied to your skin. The specialist moves a small handheld probe over the elbow to capture images. It’s painless and takes around 15 minutes.

Are there any risks of an elbow scan?

No. Ultrasound is very safe. It uses sound waves and doesn’t involve radiation. You can return to normal activity right after your appointment.
