An effective, non-invasive check of your muscle, joint and hormonal health.
Our MSK ultrasound gives fast, detailed images of soft tissues and joints in motion. It helps our team see exactly what’s going on - whether it’s inflammation, injury, or something else.
The scan is safe, quick, and doesn’t use radiation. With clear answers and same-day results, we can help you get back on track with a plan that makes sense.
An abdominal ultrasound is a fast, non-invasive scan of your organs to get clear answers and understand what is happening in your body.
We can help find the cause of your symptoms, examine organs and structures in the abdomen, detect signs that may suggest cancer and help diagnose fibroids, cysts or anything that may need further attention.
It’s normal to feel a bit unsure if this is your first abdominal ultrasound. But there’s no need to worry - these scans are quick, gentle, and shouldn’t cause pain.
For the transabdominal scan, you’ll lie on your back while one of our trained specialists applies a gel to your lower belly. This gel helps produce clear images by removing any air between the skin and the probe. The specialist will gently move the ultrasound probe over your abdomen to capture images. Most people find this step completely comfortable, but let us know if any area is sore.
After the scan, we’ll wipe off the gel and give you privacy to get dressed.
Ultrasound scans helps diagnose pain, stiffness, inflammation or weakness. Ultrasound can detect tendon tears, swelling, and inflammation quickly - often while you move your joint during the scan.
Sometimes further imaging such as MRI is necessary to assess the internal structures of the shoulder. However, our specialists can decide whether further imaging is necessary and can arrange this for you at the time of the appointment.
The following options are available:
- Shoulder
- Elbow
- Hand & Wrist
- Hip
- Knee
- Calf
- Ankle & Foot
You’ll sit or lie back. Your radiologist will then apply gel to the relevant area and move a probe around image the area.
In the case of muscle, joint and tendon scan we may ask you to move the area to assess the structures dynamically.
For abdomen and pelvis scans we will ask you to empty your bladder at one point to assess that.
The scan takes around 15–20 minutes and is pain-free.
In the case of the abdomen & pelvis scans, you will need to fast for 4 hours before the appointment and drink approximately 1 litre of water before arriving to assess your bladder.
There is no preparation needed for any muscle, joint and tendon scans.
The consultant radiologist can determine during the scan if there is any issue that may be treatable using one of our rapid, in-house procedures. These include steroid injections, hyaluronic acid injections and various other procedures.
If you choose to go ahead with the procedure we offer a reduced rate of £150 for the procedure on the day of your scan.
