Experience
Dr Maira Hameed is a consultant Radiologist at University College London Hospital with expertise across the full range of gastrointestinal and HPB (hepatopancreatobiliary) imaging, particularly inflammatory bowel disease and colorectal cancer. Her practice includes abdominal, bowel and endoanal ultrasound, abdominal MRI and CT colonography.

Dr Hameed studied medicine as a Heron Allen Scholar at Lady Margaret Hall and Green Templeton College, University of Oxford, graduating with distinction in 2015. She undertook Clinical Radiology training with specialist training and fellowship in gastrointestinal and abdominal Radiology at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust, Royal Free Hospital and University College London Hospital.

She leads clinical research studies with patient collaboration in the NHS with UCL Centre for Medical Imaging, specifically on inflammatory bowel disease, bowel ultrasound and MRI. She has obtained several research grants in this area, is widely published, and regularly invited to speak and train on these topics nationally and internationally.

She sits on the British Gastrointestinal and Abdominal Radiology (BSGAR) bowel ultrasound training group. Dr Hameed also has an enthusiasm for equity, diversity and inclusion in healthcare, and medical education, having obtained a postgraduate certificate in medical education and is a fellow of the Higher Education Academy.
